Ten thousand kilometers over some of the most rough roads in the world – the dirt tracks of a pre-war Africa were a prospect to daunt the most adventurous spirit. Yet two South African brothers in 1936 attempted this grueling stretch on ordinary bicycles. Carrying minimal equipment and even less cash, Jack and Eric Atwell turned their backs on home comforts and dull, but safe jobs to face instead the challenge of the unknown.
