Description

Irene is a pictorial history of a Transvaal Village – The frontispiece is a tranquil stretch of the Hennops River at Irene.
Irene is a choice piece of Transvaal Highveld. It contained a stream that became a river after heavy rains, shaded by weeping willows, combretum and white stinkwood strees, the stream meandered slowly westwards, at first through a valley with thorn trees and rocky outcrops and then with fruit-trees and ploughed lands and finally through wide fertile grasslands.
