Joseph Barnett (ca.1861-1897), of Jewish lineage, immigrated from Wales to South Africa in the 1880s, and moved to Johannesburg in 1888. His photographic business was inherited by his brother, David Barnett (1874-1964). The “Barnett collection” has the only remaining copies of the thousands of pictures they took. This selection from that collection pictures the Jameson raid and other photographs of the South African War. It also shows the style of dwellings, and the style of dress.
